What is diode?
Diode is semiconductor device allow current flow in one direction. Diode manufactured by the semiconductor mterial like Silicon, Germanium and Selenium.
What is diode is used for?
The function of a diode is to allow an electric current to flow in one direction (We called diode forward direction), while blocking it in the opposite direction ( Reverse direction).
Types of diodes :-
1. Zener diode.
A Zener diode is a silicon semiconductor device that allows current to flow in either a forward or reverse direction. It consist of heavily doped p-n junction, designed to conduct in the reverse direction when a certain specified voltage is reached.
2. Tunnel diode.
A tunnel diode Also called Esaki diode is a type of semiconductor diode that has effectively "negative resistance" due to the quantum mechanical effect called tunneling.
3. PN junction diode.
A p-n junction diode is a basic semiconductor device that controls the flow of electric current in a circuit.A PN-junction diode is formed when a p-type semiconductor is fused to an n-type semiconductor creating a potential barrier.
4. Schottky diode.
A Schottky Diode is a metal-semiconductor diode with a low forward voltage drop and a very fast switching speed.
5. PIN diode.
The diode in which the intrinsic layer of high resistivity is sandwiched between the P and N-region of semiconductor material.
6. Varactor diode.
The varactor diode is a p-n junction diode whose capacitance is varied by varying the voltage.
7. Laser diode.
A Laser Diode is a semiconductor device similar to a light-emitting diode (LED). It uses p-n junction to emit coherent light in which all the waves are at the same frequency and phase.
8. Photodiode.
A photodiode is a semiconductor device that converts light into an electrical current.
